STEP 1: Certification Instructions and Criteria Review

 

Congratulations on getting M Chef 2-Star Certified! It is one of the best moves you can make for your career and your rep firm. The benefits go beyond a certification; it’s a whole package of opportunities that can help you grow as a chef, connect with others in the industry, and bring more value to your team.

 

Requirements for M Chef 2-Star Certification:

  • Only MAFSI Member Rep Chefs can participate.

  • All Rep Chefs must complete 1-Star, then 2-Star and then 3-Star.

  • If you fail the Written Exam or Practical Exam, you must wait 30 days to retake the exam.

  • You must upload the following Required Documents and Checklist Documents to attain 9 out of the 12 possible points to qualify for M Chef 2-Star Certification.

  • You can start and stop during the course or uploads. You do not need to complete the certification during one sitting.

 

Timeline: 

  • Typically, a MAFSI Rep Chef can start and finish the process within three (3) weeks, including Practical Exam and M Chef Instructor(s) Review and Approval of Documents.

 

 


 


 

 

Passing Grade for M Chef 2-Star Certification: 

 

Upon Successful Completion of M Chef 2-Star Certification, you will be mailed the following: 

  • M Chef 2-Star Framed Certificate

  • M Chef 2-Star Apron

  • M Chef 2-Star Patch for your Chef's Coat (as well as digital embroidery files and high res M Chef 2-Star logos)

  • M Chef 2-Star Lapel Pin

Additional Benefits:

Failing Grade for M Chef 2-Star Certification: 

 

If you do not pass the certification, your Instructor will reach out by email with a list of items that need to be corrected. If you fail just the Written Exam or Practical Exam, you must wait 30 days to retake it.

Helpful Hints Before You Begin


Gather Important Documents

 

 

Before you start the certification steps, we recommend pulling together the documents that you will need to upload for your M Chef 2-Star Certification.

 

Document Types Accepted: Microsoft Word, PDF, PNG or JPEG.

 


 

Required Documents:

 

  1. REQUIRED ITEM 1 - M Chef 1-Star Completion:  M Chef 1-Star Completion Certificate (Required)


 

Graded Checklist Documents (Need 9 out 12 Possible Points):

 

Important: You only need to upload documents for Checklist Items where you answer "Yes".

 

  1. CHECKLIST ITEM 1 - Chef Experience: Resume showing at least two (2) years’ experience as a Sous Chef or second in command of a brigade. (1 Point)

  2. CHECKLIST ITEM 2 - Cooking Experience: Resume showing at least two (2) years’ experience as a (Chef de Cuisine). (2 Points)

  3. CHECKLIST ITEM 3 - Chef - Years: Resume showing at least ten (10) years’ experience as a professional chef. This time frame can include time as a rep firm chef. (2 Points)

  4. CHECKLIST ITEM 4 - Chef Management Experience: Two professional references/letters showing you managed at least ten (10) or more personnel, including your roles. (2 Points)

  5. CHECKLIST ITEM 5 - Industry Experience: Resume and/or letter from a Principal or Manager from your MAFSI Rep Firm showing you have worked as a rep chef, or in the industry as a rep firm chef, for at least 48 months (4 years), including your start date. (2 Points)

  6. CHECKLIST ITEM 6 - Professional Degree: A copy of your Professional Culinary Degree or Certificate. (2 Points)

  7. CHECKLIST ITEM 7 - Trade Shows: NAFEM/NRA    Attendance proof for at least two (2) NAFEM or four (4) NRA Shows, or a combination of the two. (1 Point)
