STEP 1: Certification Instructions and Criteria Review

 

Congratulations on getting M Chef 1-Star Certified! It is one of the best moves you can make for your career and your rep firm. The benefits go beyond a certification; it’s a whole package of opportunities that can help you grow as a chef, connect with others in the industry, and bring more value to your team.

 

Requirements for M Chef 1-Star Certification:

  • Only MAFSI Member Rep Chefs can participate.

  • All Rep Chefs must complete 1-Star, then 2-Star and then 3-Star.

  • If you fail the Written Exam, you must wait 30 days to retake the exam.

  • You must upload the following Required Documents and Checklist Documents to attain 6 out of the 9 possible points to qualify for M Chef 1-Star Certification.

  • You can start and stop during the course or uploads. You do not need to complete the certification during one sitting.

 

Timeline: 

  • Typically, a MAFSI Rep Chef can start and finish the process within two weeks, including M Chef Instructor(s) Review and Approval of Documents.

 

 

 

 

 

Passing Grade for M Chef 1-Star Certification: 

 

Upon Successful Completion of M Chef 1-Star Certification, you will be mailed the following: 

  • M Chef 1-Star Framed Certificate

  • M Chef 1-Star Apron

  • M Chef 1-Star Patch for your Chef's Coat (as well as digital embroidery files and high res M Chef 1-Star logos)

  • M Chef 1-Star Lapel Pin

Additional Benefits:

  • Your Headshot with Company Information listed on the MAFSI M Chef Webpage and MAFSI Website.

  • Social Media Announcement on all MAFSI Channels.

  • Invitation to M Chef Quarterly Meetings

  • Access to Valuable M Chef Resources

Failing Grade for M Chef 1-Star Certification: 

 

If you do not pass the certification, your Instructor will reach out by email with a list of items that need to be corrected. If you fail just the Written Exam, you must wait 30 days to retake it.

Helpful Hints Before You Begin

Gather Important Documents

 

 

Before you start the certification steps, we recommend pulling together the documents that you will need to upload for your M Chef 1-Star Certification.

 

Document Types Accepted: Microsoft Word, PDF, PNG or JPEG.

 

 

Required Documents:

 

  1. REQUIRED ITEM 1: Foodservice 101 Completion Certificate (Required)

  2. REQUIRED ITEM 2: Your Resume with Work History (Required)

  3. REQUIRED ITEM 3: Professional Reference Letter #1 (Required)

  4. REQUIRED ITEM 3: Professional Reference Letter #2 (Required)

 

Graded Checklist Documents (Need 6 out 9 Possible Points):

 

Important: You only need to upload documents for Checklist Items where you answer "Yes".

 

  1. CHECKLIST ITEM 1: Resume showing at least 5 years' experience as a Chef De Partie (2 Points)

  2. CHECKLIST ITEM 2: Two professional references/letters showing you managed at least 3 or more personnel, including your roles (1 Point)

  3. CHECKLIST ITEM 3: Your Current CFSP Certificate from NAFEM (2 Points)

  4. CHECKLIST ITEM 4: Your Current ServSafe Manager Certificate from NRA (1 Point)

  5. CHECKLIST ITEM 5: A letter from a Principal or Manager at your MAFSI Rep Firm showing you have worked for the company for at least 24 months (2 years), including your start date (2 Points)

  6. CHECKLIST ITEM 6: Your Current Chef Association Membership Certificate and/or Membership Dues Receipt (e.g. ACF) (1 Point)
