Taking the Course: The chapters are taken separately and started and stopped for note taking.
Who can take the course?: All channel partners in the foodservice industry. Foodservice 101 is open to reps, manufacturers, consultants, dealers, service companies, press and allied associations.
Objectives
Foodservice 101 Chapters
Chapter 1: This is Foodservice
Time to complete chapter: 30 minutes to 45 minutes (depending on student's prior knowledge of the industry).
This opening chapter will explain the foodservice industry across the US and Canada, as well as our side of the industry's products, impact and size. It defines the products categories and sub-categories, and how they fit into the landscape of the industry.
Chapter 2: Operator Alley
Time to complete chapter: 30 minutes to 45 minutes (depending on student's prior knowledge of the industry).
In our second chapter the student learns the 24 Operator segments and helps hungry diners find the appropriate place to eat. They also learn how to determine whether an operator is commercial or non-commercial.
Chapter 3: Meet the Channel Partners
Time to complete chapter: 30 minutes to 45 minutes (depending on student's prior knowledge of the industry).
In our third chapter the student assumes the role of a new restaurant owner and meets the 5 channel partners as they open their restaurant Best Pizza Ever. In their journey they meet the manufacturer, rep, dealer, consultant and service company and learn about their roles and responsibilities in the channel.
Chapter 4: Foodservice Math
Time to complete chapter: 45 minutes to 60 minutes (depending on student's prior knowledge of the industry).
In our fourth chapter, we'll define the purchase process starting from list price to quote, P.O., acknowledgement, invoice, and payment. We look at which channel partner is responsible for each part of the transaction, why they're responsible for it, and how to calculate common foodservice transactions.
Chapter 5: Running a Restaurant
Time to complete chapter: 30 minutes to 45 minutes (depending on student's prior knowledge of the industry).
Assuming the role of a busy operator, the student gains first-hand knowledge of running a restaurant. They will learn about repair, replacement, replenishment, rollout, renovation and new construction.
Chapter 6: Culture & Customs of Foodservice Town (channel partner roles and responsibilities)
Time to complete chapter: 30 minutes to 45 minutes (depending on student's prior knowledge of the industry).
In our final chapter, we’ll learn what channel partners expect from one another.
